Ursus maritimusis is the scientific name of Polar bear which is carnivorous in nature. This carnivorous bear comes under Mamalia class and Animalia Kingdom. Constantine John Phipps was the first person who described these Bears as a distinct species.  The scientific name for this bear that is Ursus maritimus is derived from a latin word which means Marine bear. According to a survey it is found that this species of bear came into existence near about 4.2 million years ago. On 2004 the oldest jaw bone of a polar bear was found on Prince Charles Foreland that is around 130,000 to 110,000 years old.

The breeding process in female polar bear starts from the age of four to five years. And the mating process between the male and the female polar bear takes place in the month of April and May on Sea Ice.
