Harpy Eagle Vs Golden Eagle, Harpy eagle also
known as Harpia harpyja often referred as “ruler of the rainforest”, however it
is one of the most endangered birds in Latin America. They are one of the heaviest
of all birds’ species, with thick legs and claws. They are mainly found in
Mexico, Argentina and most of the parts of Central America.
They are
mostly live in lush green forest areas. For nesting, these eagles prefer silk
cotton trees and usually build nests 90 to 140 feet above the ground. They like
to use trees with widely spaced branches for a clear flight path to and from
nests. They use large sticks to create nest’s huge frame and line it with
softer greens, see pods and animal fur to make it warm and comfortable. Once
built, an eagle pair may reuse and remodel the same nest for many years.
This bird
has very distinctive looks, with feathers atop of its head that fan into bold
crest when the bird feels threatened. Like most other eagles, harpy eagles are
almost twice as large as the male.
Harpies are great at saving precious energy. A harpy eagle is capable,
in serious chase, of reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour. It dives own onto
its prey and snatches it with outstretched feet.
The golden
eagle is scientifically called as Aquila chrysaetos and is best known to prey
in the northern hemisphere and is most widely distributed species of eagle. The
golden eagle is one of the largest, fastest, birds in North America. Although
capable of killing large prey such as cranes, wild ungulates, and domestic
livestock, the golden eagle subsists primarily on rabbits, hares,
squirrels.
They build
nests in high places to which they can return for many breeding years. These birds are dark brown with lighter
golden brown plumage on their heads and necks. Golden eagles use their speed
and sharp talons to catch its prey easily. They also eat fish, reptiles,
insects, etc.
Golden
eagles maintain territories that may be as large as 60 square miles. These majestic birds range from Mexico
through much of western North America. Golden eagles are found in Asia,
northern Africa and Europe. Some golden migrate but some do not. It depends
upon the conditions of their geographic location. Alaskan and Canadian eagles
typically fly south in the fall i.e. when these eagles live in western
continental US, they tend to remain in their ranges throughout the year.

i love golden eagles they are one the best raptors in the world, golden eagles are very quick learners which indicates that they are the most intelligent eagles in the world.. no doubt harpy eagles physical descriptions are stronger than golden but they are not the intelligent ones like golden eagles. i will go with golden eagle as they are better than any other dangerous eagles like philippine eagle, harpy eagle, steller sea eagle and bald eagle.
ReplyDeleteGolden eagles shows power and speed coz they are trained like berkut in mongolia and khazak. They have been know to kill full grown grey wolf and antelopes but in normal set the Philippine eagle and the harpy eagle are two of the worlds most powerful eagle in terms of weapon and size. The only thing is that they are critically endangered and few videos or photos or studies can prove how strong they are the philippine eagle foundation and the harpy eagle foundation concentrate more on how to save the eagle from extinction rather than making videos just to prove how strong they are. Golden eagle are the most succesful eagles specie in the world coz their population is vast that it occupies the whole of northern hemispere europe asia and america. So plenty of footage you can see avout how strong they are.
ReplyDeletei think golden eagles are fearless raptors who puts their life in danger and go for the kill unlike all other raptors, but we have to admit that harpy eagle is far stronger than golden eagles. i am a big fan of golden eagles but last time i was in Brazil i had saw the big harpy eagle and i was threatened by them after seeing their big heavy talons which have so much power that they even crush the human bone easily. so we all can judge how dangerous is harpy eagle.
