Anaconda Facts and Information

Anaconda, sounds quite dangerous but familiar also. Did you know the original name of this snake? Do you know that this snake comes under the list of non venomous snakes? Well, I have brought lots of interesting facts regarding this dangerous snake in this post.

Without wasting time let's proceed towards the exciting facts about Anacondas. Starting with the name, class, order and family, let me inform you first that the term Anaconda is not the actual name of this species of snake. Eunectes is the actual name of Anaconda and it comes under Reptilian class, squamata order and Biodae family.


Eunectes are majorly found in South Africa and belongs to genus of boas. According to the last survey on Anaconda's four different species found which comes in the list of largest snakes in this world. Talking about the geographic range these snakes are found from Colombia to tropical South Africa.

What did these snakes eat? As we all know that these snakes are aquatic so, they usually prey on other aquatic animals and fish also.

Eunectes I mean the popularly known Anaconda's are non-venomous but still are popular as one of the most popular snakes in the world.

There are many venomous snakes in this world but none of them sounds as dangerous as Anacondas do. Well, the name of this dangerous snake is derived from a Greek word which means "Good Swimmer".

Apart from Eunectes there are many other names such as Eunectes murinus, Eunectes notaeus, Eunectes deschauenseei, and Eunectes beniensis. These four have a common word and that is Eunectes and this is because these four are the names of four different species of Anacondas. 

If you have interest in wild life studies then you must have information that Anacondas are the largest snakes among all snakes found on earth. These snakes are thin in their mouth and tail portion but rest of their body is much thicker than their tail and mouth.

Female anacondas usually are larger in size as compare to male.

Anaconda can hunt both in water and land but mainly it hunts in water.

It can stay under the water for 10 minutes.

On smaller meal they can eat up to 25 kg in a day.

It is the world heaviest snake and second longest snake after reticulated python.

On wild they can live up to 14 years and 28 years in captivity.
