Chimpanzee facts

Chimpanzee is the great apes that are closely related to humans. These animals are usually found in western and central Africa. Due to deforestation of chimpanzee habitats, They fall under an endangered species. Chimpanzees have long arms and short body. Chimpanzees are usually covered with black hair on most of their boy parts except fingers, palms, bottom of their feet.

Chimpanzees have senses similar to human beings including smell, taste, sight, hearing and touch. They have hairless face with a short white beard in male and female adults. Chimpanzees are mainly omnivores.

They look and hunt for food during day, eat leaves, seeds, plants, flowers, etc. They even eat ants, small animals and termites. Chimpanzees are considered to be intelligent and can learn extremely complex task. The male chimpanzee weighs up to 70 kg and stand up to 5.6 feet high; while on other hand, the female chimpanzee is comparatively smaller to the male ones.

Chimpanzees and human beings share 95 to 98 percent of same DNA. They communicate physically in ways similar to human beings i.e. by kissing, embracing, patting, tickling, etc. And they even laugh when they play. Every night they make nests to sleep and they never sleep in the same nest twice.

Gorilla facts

Like all other apes, Gorillas have longer arms than their legs and they tend to walk on all four limbs at certain times. Their appearance may vary but generally they are brownish grey in colour whereas, mountain gorillas have more blackish coat. Gorillas are herbivores and eat leaves, shots, roots, fruits and vines.

The DNA of gorillas is mostly similar to humans, about 95-99 percent. Now day’s gorillas have been considered as critically endangered species. Gorillas are ground dwelling and live in groups of 6-12 with the oldest and largest silverback leading a family of females, tier young ones, and younger males also known as black backs.

The silverbacks are generally very aggressive and out of anger beat his chest. Gorillas are usually shy animals. They are more active during day time. At night, they make a nest of leaves and sleep. Mothers usually share their nests with the infants.

Young males may leave their family groups as they become older.  Gorillas are threatened by habitat loss due to increase in population of humans and diseases like ebola. They are even affected by the climate change as it may directly impact upon their habitats.

Compare Chimpanzee vs Gorilla

Gorilla’s face is black whereas, face of a chimpanzee is pink coloured. The head, forehead and hump of gorillas are larger compared to that of chimpanzee.

Chimpanzees are omnivores, whereas, gorillas are herbivores. Life span of both the animals is longer than other animals but, when compared to chimpanzees, gorilla live more than them.

Gorillas are larger than chimpanzee’s in fact; they are twice the size of a chimpanzee. Both of them have larger brains. But, chimpanzees are more intelligent than gorillas. Gorillas have prominent arms, chest and thigh muscle mass in comparison to chimpanzees.

Who will win- Gorilla or Chimpanzee?

An adult male gorilla weighs up to 140-200 kilograms, whereas, an adult chimpanzee weighs up to 70 kg. Gorillas are comparatively more powerful than the chimpanzee. They are even aggressive at times.

In a fight between these two animals, gorilla would win the fight as it is stronger than chimpanzee. Whether in terms of weight, power, strength, height, gorilla is far stronger and better than chimpanzees. A single blow from gorilla could kill the chimpanzee in a very short period of time. 

The teeth of the gorillas are far larger than chimpanzees. Nonetheless primate bites are always nasty no matter what species age or gender is doing the biting.
