Tiger is the largest living felid and comes under the category of most fierce wild animal on the earth with a total body length up to 11 ft, height up to 3.5 ft and weighing up to 312 kg. Tiger is the second tallest felid after Lion, its length, height and weight vary according to its subspecies and from all subspecies Siberian Tiger is the largest. There are total 9 subspecies of tiger ever exist on earth, from which 3 subspecies (Bali Tiger, Caspian Tiger and Javan Tiger) are extinct and remaining 6 subspecies (Bengal Tiger, Siberian Tiger, Indochinese Tiger, South China Tiger, Malayan Tiger and Sumatran Tiger) are in the list of endangered animals.

Tiger Population:

The exact number of tigers is unknown because some wild tigers in north India and Nepal are never been in humans contact. According to the report of World Wide Fund for Nature there are 3200 total tigers remaining in the world from which Bengal Tigers are the most numerous tiger subspecies with the total number of 2450 (1760 in India, 450 in Bangladesh, 160 in Nepal and 80 in Bhutan). Siberian Tiger is largest from all subspecies and Sumatran Tiger is the smallest of living subspecies of tiger.

At present Tigers are only found in Asia especially in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan and Cambodia. India is a home for Tigers because 40% of total tiger population resides in India therefore Bengal Tiger is in the most numerous subspecies from all 6 living subspecies. At the start of 20th century there were 100,000 total tigers in the world and at present there are only 3200 tigers, we lost 93 % of tiger population which result in the extinction of 3 subspecies and extinction of 1 subspecies (South Chinese Tiger) from wild.

Tiger Diet:

Tigers are large carnivores solitary hunter which prefer hunting large and medium sized animals, In India and other South East Asia, Tigers mainly prey on Nilgai, Chital, Gaur, Water Buffalo, Barasingha, Sambar, Wild Pigs and Wild Boar, occasionally they also prey on another carnivores animals like Leopards, Dogs, Python, Slot Bears and Crocodiles. While Amur or Siberian Tiger love to prey and heavily rely on Manchurian Wapiti and Wild Boar, they also prey on Sika Deer, Roe Deer, Musk Deer and Moose.  Tiger can eat 21 kg meat at one time and hides & buries the remaining meat with the help of soil and leaves.
