Wolf Facts, Howl and Hybrid Information

As wolf is a well-known wild animal so almost all of us know about this animal but this post has brought some extra about this animal. The scientific name of wolf is Canis Lupus and it belongs to carnivore order, canidae family and canis genus.

The gray wolf is a habitat of North America, North Africa, and Eurasia. Wolf is the largest species of canidae family. In terms of appearance, wolf looks like sled dog and German shepherd. The male wolf weighs around 43 – 45 kg and the female wolf weighs between 36 – 38.5 kg. There are some physical features that makes wolf different than sled dog and German shepherd and those are:

The word “wolf” has been derived from the old English word “Wulf”. The ancestors of this animal were of Miocene era and were native of North America.

When it comes to hunting wolfs are the most vulnerable hunters and hunts a huge number of preys at a time. Musk deer, argali, reindeer, fallow deer, mouflon, wisent, saiga, ibex, chamois and wild goats are the major preys of Wolf. Wolf hunt human beings also but in very rare case but now a day’s people are aware of these type of animals and taking all preventions to keep themselves away from these animals.

Not only meat wolves also consume vegetables and fruit matters. Wolves are the typicall dominators of Canid species. In Eurasia and North America when Brown bears encounter with Wolves, brown bears are found more dominating than wolves. Isn’t it very strange? When I came to know about this fact it was an exciting as well as strange one for me.
